Sunday as a Day of Rest, Young Athletes Sharing their Catholic Faith I The Bishop's Corner I 4.23.26
What does it mean to keep Sunday as a day of rest? Can you share some specifics about things I should or should not be doing?
While watching the NCAA wrestling tournament, I noticed several athletes openly talking about their faith in post-match interviews. One athlete from Penn State even referenced Saint Francis of Assisi and said that winning a national championship made it clearer than ever that his faith matters more than any title. I found that incredibly moving. Do you think we’re seeing a shift where more young people are becoming bold about their faith? If so, what do you attribute that to?
I entered the Catholic Church several years ago through RCIA, and I’ve felt so at home! My joy that Easter still keeps me spiritually energized. Immediately after, however, I felt like there wasn’t a way to get fully involved with my parish and missed that connection with others that I had as a candidate. With so many coming through OCIA this year, what advice would you offer to put that newfound faith and energy into regular practice?
Why do Catholics and Orthodox Christians celebrate Easter on different Sundays? I know we are trying to settle on a common date, how are those discussions going?
There’s been some discussion internationally about the possibility of ordaining married men as priests in response to priest shortages. How should Catholics understand that conversation, especially here in our own diocese?
